some comments that perhaps merit consideration

i'm not big on self importance, or the edifices that regulate, rank, and manufacture importance, generally. but this little shitty blog, today, will touch on some real important substance. relevant and important to you and me. lets talk about the unprofessional grade of our products. its been said that "if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself." ok. get some locally grown veggies, and make your own salad. buy a quality steel frame, sick fork, kick ass components, some bars, wheels, a brooks saddle, and you got yourself a bike. some strips of iron wood, adhesive, sand paper, treatment, and you got yourself a cutting board. but in reality, not too many people can make a car. a hand drill. an mp3 player. this piece of shit laptop. the point is: we need to sacrifice quality, all of the time. take power tools. go to a box store home&garden depot. not a single tool in there is a "professional" tool. they're all made to fail. all of them. let me give you an example. if you take a "top of the line" power drill, plug it in, and run it non stop for 8 hours a day, and 5 days out of the week; you'll soon find yourself buying a new one. most construction companies replace most of their tools every few months, if they're honest. these tool were manufactured with faulty casings, cheap parts, unmaintainable motors. compromises were made at every conceivable turn, except image and saleability. with names like the hawk. barracuda. whacker. husky. rugged. grizzly. eradicator. a picture of our image conscious upstanding president bush with his shinny yellow weed whacker, taking down some dead wood. tv commercials of poor old dad's elation as he gets his bad ass growling power tool from approving santa. the joneses' will be so jealous. as with virtually every other type of product, good power tools are made all over the world, mostly by small outfits, with company names people can't pronounce, and dedicated crafts men and women who wanna look at themselves in the mirror every morning. they seek to improve upon what seems to be perfection. for example, there's a swiss company who sells miniature fans for motors, computers, fridges etc..., and they insure their fans for a 100 years. this is only because the austrian company they buy their bearings from insures their product for a 100 years. the prototype of their first miniature fan sits in their showroom, running non stop for over 60 years. their japanese competitor sells their fans for a small fraction of the cost, and insures them for 5 years. guess which company completely outsells the other, and is probably humming like its about to die in your new stainless profile fridge? i want you to get mad and say goddamn it why? mostly because the people who make the business decisions in this world are not interested in a skilled, educated and principled population. they want flashy shitty products that can be used without any skill, care or expectation. made by people who do not care about future maintenance, reliability, usability, or quality. i want you to get mad. take a walk in the park. maybe you'll find a woodpecker who is working the hell out of that tool on a tree. see if the woodpecker's pissed at the cheap tool he's working with. i doubt it.
